Personal goals for 2024

Year recaps are so 2023. Let me tell you what I have planned for 2024. I say 'you', but this blog is mostly for myself. 😅

I have had an amazing year, where I was able to jumpstart my career into IT security. So, for 2024 I wanted to have a big goal to help me sharpen my skills towards automation, architecting and governance.

This year I am going to stop using admin web portals to do my work.[^1][^2][^3] Using tools that will be more common (like DevOps for Microsoft 365 management) and projects provided by the community, this should be possible.

  1. My work for this year will probably consist of 1. Microsoft 365 management and architecture, focused on security (with Identity as my key focus), 2. Automation of processes and procedures and 3. (although this is more a learning goal for myself rather than a job requirement) IT Service Management and Governance, risk and compliance.
  2. In production environments. Microsoft Learn and information from the Graph API should give enough context to perform my work. For documentation, verification and reference, I would probably log into web portals of development and test environments.
  3. Where possible. Some settings are not available (yet). Also, I sometimes I have to work in environments where I do not have free reign.

This should be doable, by using several tools: - Microsoft365DSC. I’ve contributed to this project several times already and hope I can make use of the project many times more. - Microsoft Graph and Azure SDK’s. - Including legion of tools that are based on the SDK's, like DCToolbox, AzureHound, and many others. - LLM’s (sorry). I have read a blog from Eleanor Konik? that aptly explained that an LLM is like a dishwasher. It can’t do everything (despite some on LinkedIn are trying to preach).

Let's see in a year how far I will get!
